[solved] problem with compiz

Postby securityg33k » Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:25 pm

Hello guys,

please i have a problem when i try to enable the compiz on mint 13 (Mate) . the problem that compiz change the window border to another one with a green background and huge font and i cannot restore it back or change it from desktop appearance settings , i think this because of the window decorator in compiz is set to default compiz so i tried to set it to "gtk-window-decorator" but it didn't work and when i try to execute from terminal "gtk-window-decorator --replace" it shows the following error :

Code: Select all
Window manager warning: Failed to load theme "Adwaita": Failed to find a valid file for theme Adwaita

so i don't know how i can enable the compiz while have the default mate themes enabled .

i hope somone can help me with this , thanks in advance

ok i found the solution for the problem , in case anyone else face the same problem here is how to fix it :

i solved the problem for missing Adwaita files by installing the default gnome themes .

execute in terminal : sudo apt-get install gnome-themes-standard

then the compiz was able to load the default Adwaita theme with it's default window decoration .

after that to use the theme you want like Mint-X , do the following :

1) install the default gconf-editor : sudo apt-get install gconf-editor
2) execute gconf-editor and go to "/apps/metacity/general/" modify theme value to the theme name you want , example "Mint-X"

then logout and login in again , Mint-X window borders will load properly :)

Hi
I can not change window borders in appearance when compiz is active.
with your solution can not change theme or window border too! Because in my system not exist any metacity in gconf-editor But:
Code: Select all
root@ali-deb:/home/alireza# apt-cache policy metacity
metacity:
  Installed: 1:2.34.3-2
  Candidate: 1:2.34.3-3
  Version table:
     1:2.34.3-3 0
        500 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages
 *** 1:2.34.3-2 0
        500 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ testing/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
root@ali-deb:/home/alireza# apt-cache policy gnome-themes-standard
gnome-themes-standard:
  Installed: 3.4.2-1
  Candidate: 3.4.2-1
  Version table:
 *** 3.4.2-1 0
        500 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ testing/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Why ? Any ideas?
Thanks.

Compiz isn't yet supported under MATE. See here.
